Educational Health Care Plan
One of the things that I found to be invaluable throughout my education was my Educational Health Care Plan EHCP), this plan was put in place for when I started secondary school. My parents had a in-depth conversation with my school about their worries and concerns and also my own worries and it was agreed that I would benefit for my own safety having a EHCP in place. I would have regular meetings every 6 months or so to go through any changes or how things were going. My EHCP had in place the following which made things so much easier for me:-
-
Transport to and from school within a mini bus so I didn't have to navigate the school bus
-
A dedicated teaching assistant who met me from my mini-bus, helped me with my bags and supported me throughout my time there
-
I had a pass which meant I could leave the lessons 10 minutes early as I was slow and unsteady on my fee
-
Enlarged fonts and equipment
-
Positioned at the front of the class
-
I was given a swivel chair for my posture and eyes
-
Assistance throughout my GCSEs, if I needed help with reading
-
PE lessons were changed to physiotherapy lessons
-
Lift pass to enable me to use when needed
This really helped me throughout my education as it meant school was aware of my needs and requirements and is something I would recommend pushing for.
